1. Who we are and what this covers
Nepal Offline Maps is an independent Android app provided by Shankar Tiwari. This policy covers the app and this website.
We use information to provide the features you request, operate online services, respond to support enquiries and diagnose app failures. You do not need to create an account. The app is not operated by the Government of Nepal.
2. Information on your device
With Android location permission, the app uses your device’s position for locating you and navigation. A recent location fix and the last viewed map position can be stored on your phone. During active navigation, location updates may continue in the background with an ongoing notification.
Recent searches, saved places and routes stay on your phone to support search and guidance. The app does not keep an online history of your journeys.
Downloaded maps, place information, temporary online data and your settings are stored on your phone. Some display preferences may be restored or transferred by Android, depending on your device settings.
Manual route planning does not require a GPS fix. Denying location permission prevents location-based guidance but does not prevent browsing downloaded maps or manually choosing route endpoints. Android and Google Play services used for positioning are also governed by Google’s privacy policy and your device settings.
Sharing is a separate action. If you choose to share a place, the shared text or link includes its coordinates and may include its name. The app or person you share with receives that information. Opening a shared link can also expose its URL to the website’s hosting infrastructure. Only share locations you intend to disclose.
3. Optional online features and providers
Weather and hazard information are enabled by default. You can turn them off in the app’s settings. Downloading offline data and app updates also needs a connection. Services that handle online requests may receive standard connection details, such as your IP address.
Weather — MET Norway
When weather is enabled, the app sends an approximate location for the area shown on the map to MET Norway.
MET Norway receives that approximate location, your IP address and request details. Forecasts are temporarily saved on your phone to reduce repeat requests. See MET Norway’s privacy policy.
Hazards — BIPAD Portal
The app gets published BIPAD Portal hazard and road information through our online service. You cannot submit reports through the app.
BIPAD Portal is the source of the underlying public records. See BIPAD Portal. Information stored by online services is separate from information temporarily saved on your phone.
Downloads, voice and support
Google Play delivers the app and its offline maps under Google’s privacy policy. Spoken directions use the voice service installed on your phone. Its availability and privacy practices depend on the service you use; check its settings and privacy information.
If you email support, we receive your email address and what you choose to send, such as a message, screenshots or logs. Please avoid sending sensitive locations or other unnecessary personal information.
4. Crash diagnostics
The app automatically sends crash reports to Google Firebase Crashlytics. These reports help us fix problems. They can include what went wrong, device and Android information, the app version, when the crash happened and an app installation ID. Reports saved while offline may be sent when you reconnect. A report may also say which part of the app was open when it failed.
We do not deliberately add your exact location, route or search terms to crash reports, although reports can include technical context about what the app was doing.
Google describes a 90-day retention period before deletion of crash reports and related IDs begins. See Google Firebase’s privacy information for details. The app has no switch to turn off crash reporting; switching off weather or hazards does not turn it off.
5. Your choices and how long data stays
- Location: grant, restrict or revoke permission through Android settings. End navigation to stop the active navigation session.
- Online extras: switch weather and hazards off in the app’s settings to stop their optional refreshes. Previously received information or provider logs are not withdrawn by switching them off.
- Local information: remove saved items using available app controls, or clear the app’s storage through Android. Clearing storage or uninstalling removes app-managed local state and can require downloading offline data again.
- Retention: saved places and preferences generally remain until you remove them or clear app storage. Weather and hazard information saved on your phone expires; that does not mean outside services have deleted their records.
- Support: correspondence is retained as needed to handle your enquiry, maintain relevant support records and meet applicable obligations. Contact us to request its removal.
Providers may process information in countries other than yours. Their retention and security practices are described in the linked policies. We use encrypted HTTPS for the online services described here, but no device, network or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
6. This website
This website does not use advertising or analytics trackers or request your location. Using its menus and screenshot gallery does not send those choices to us.
The services that host and protect this website may receive your IP address and basic request details. They may also use essential security cookies.
7. Privacy requests and children
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information, object to processing, withdraw relevant consent, or complain to a privacy authority. Contact us using the address below. We may need enough information to verify your request, but please do not send identity documents or precise journey details unless a safe, necessary process is agreed.
Because there are no user accounts, we may not be able to find a particular crash report or retrieve information stored only on your phone. We will explain what can be deleted rather than promise a deletion we cannot verify.
The app is not specifically directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly request personal information from them. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent us personal information should contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
8. Earlier releases and policy changes
Older releases used different services, including advertising and analytics. The new release does not change how an older app already installed on a phone behaves. Read the archived 2021 Privacy Policy if you are using an earlier release.
The current app does not include advertising. If ads or materially different data practices are introduced later, this policy and relevant in-app or store disclosures will be updated before that change takes effect. Material changes will be communicated where required; the effective date above identifies this policy.
